Then construction: loop pile (berber) hides footprints and takes abuse but can snag with pets; cut pile (plush, frieze) feels softer and suits bedrooms; patterned carpet needs its repeat planned into every seam. For stairs, the choice is full-wrap carpet, tread-only, or a runner over exposed wood – each with its own look and wear profile. The right answer is per room, not per house, and it's exactly what a measuring visit settles.
Vacuum high-traffic lanes twice a week – it's grit grinding the pile from inside, not foot traffic itself, that ages carpet fastest, especially through a Calgary winter of tracked sand.
