New carpet has a noticeable smell – is that normal?

A mild odour from new carpet and adhesives in the first few days is common and typically fades on its own with normal ventilation. Opening windows and running ventilation for the first day or two after installation usually clears it faster, and Calgary's typically dry air helps it dissipate reasonably quickly compared to more humid climates.
